Specialists in Managing Water and Energy Efficiency Projects and Programs
Examples of Current and Recent Projects
San Antonio Water System (SAWS) Commercial Toilet Retrofit Program: From 1998 through 2007, CCE marketed, managed and facilitated the SAWS subsidized retrofit of low flow toilets, showerheads and faucet aerators for reduction of water consumption at all SAWS industrial, commercial and institutional customers' facilities. Approximately 60,000 toilets and 75,000 showerheads were retrofitted, with water savings estimated to be greater than 500 million gallons per year.
This 290 unit apartment property is saving about $50,000 per year on their utility costs (water & natural gas) after implementing a CCE managed conservation program.
Water and Energy Cost Reduction for Apartment Properties: CCE has performed energy and water audits, and coordinated and managed utility cost reduction programs for a variety of apartment properties and other multi-family housing facilities. We also do state sales tax exemption studies for common areas electric and natural gas billings.
This manufacturer eliminated the 8.25% sales tax on their electricity billings after CCE performed an Energy Predominant Use Study.
Predominant Use Studies:CCE has performed numerous "Predominant Use Studies" to qualify a wide variety of manufacturing operations for a Texas state sales tax exemption on electricity and natural gas usage.
City of Houston Cooling Tower Audit Program: Managed, marketed and implemented water conservation program for the Houston public works department, offering free (City funded) cooling tower audits to all Houston industrial, commercial and institutional customers. CCE performed 140 audits and provided a written report to the facility manager, with detailed recommedations for reducing cooling tower water consumption. Saved approximately 94 million gallons water per year. Coordinated two well-attended cooling tower efficiency seminars.
A cooling tower audit of this facility is saving over 500,000 gallons water per year
Renovation of this landmark fountain dramatically reduced water consumption.
City of Houston Swimming Pool & Fountain Repair Project: Managed project to reduce water consumption at 43 city owned swimming pools and large decorative fountains. Performed site survey of each facility, indentified water saving repairs or modifications, estimated the cost of improvements, and prioritized by benefit to cost ratio for each facility. After selecting the highest priority facilities, coordinated the design of repairs, prepared bid packages, and oversaw the implementation.
Anaerobic Digester Gas offers attractive alternatives for biomass energy recovery.
Energy Conservation at Wastewater Treatment Plants: CCE has performed energy audits of several municipal wastewater treatment plants to identify and quantify opportunities for energy conservation and operating cost reduction, including motor retrofits, optimization of activated sludge air compressors, and utilization of digester gas. Anaerobic digestor gas (Biogas) offers several alternatives such as on-site power generation, gas driven air compressor engines, or sale for BTU value, to utilize this valuable, renewable energy source which is generally going to waste in a flare at most WWTP's.
Energy Innovator Award-winning facility
Energy Efficient Construction of Commercial Buildings: CCE recently received a City Public Service “Energy Innovator Award” for its project management of the design, permitting, bidding, contract negotiations, civil/site work, concrete and steel erection, plumbing, electrical, HVAC and overall construction of a grass roots John Deere Tractor sales and service facility near Boerne, TX. The facility design incorporates a variety of energy and water efficiency measures, including energy saving passive architectural features, high efficiency lighting, double pane windows, high SEER HVAC systems, gas fired radiant heaters in the shop, low flow sanitary fixtures, and a tractor wash water treatment / recycle system.
This small biotech / pharmaceutical company reduced their energy costs by approximately $90,000 per year.
Utility Cost Reduction Project Management: Cost Containment Engineering, Inc. designed and managed an energy (electricity and natural gas) and bio-hazard waste cost reduction program for OSI Pharmaceuticals, Inc. CCE has also managed energy and water efficiency studies and utility cost / tax reduction programs for other confidential client Biotech / Pharmaceutical companies. Due to the nature of their operations and equipment, biotech facilities tend to be energy intensive (per square foot of space) and often have high ROI opportunites to reduce utility costs.
Management and design of energy and water cost reduction programs for manufacturers, hotels/motels, restaurant chains, bio-tech companies, large office buildings, and most other facilities and operations where utility costs exceed $100,000 per year.
Project Sponsor (contractor) for TXU/Oncor, CenterPoint Energy, Entergy and AEP (Texas Central Company) to implement energy conservation measures (lighting retrofits, attic insulation, air infiltration reduction, A/C duct sealing, and installation of high SEER A/C systems) at their customer’s facilities under the Texas Public Utilities Commission mandated Hard-to-Reach and Small Commercial SOP Programs.
Water Conservation Planning - Assisted a publicly-owned water utility serving a mid-size city in identifying and evaluating various potential water conservation projects/programs. Developed an extensive list of potential programs such as toilet and showerhead retrofits, irrigation audits, cooling tower audits, drought tolerant landscaping incentives, internal lost and unaccounted for water, and many other water conservation options for economic evaluation. Estimated the cost of each potential program, the projected water savings, and compared the alternatives on an ROI basis (program cost per acre-foot water saved).
